American‑Slovenian Club hosted a special virtual session highlighting SIBO GROUP’s remarkable journey from a Slovenian manufacturer to a fast‑growing player in the U.S. market. Members and partners heard firsthand how SIBO built its American presence, adapted to a new business culture, and scaled operations to meet the demands of global customers.
The conversation offered both inspiration and practical insight—showing that Slovenian companies can succeed in the United States when they combine courage, adaptability, and strong local partnerships. It was a powerful reminder that global ambition paired with disciplined execution can open doors far beyond our home market.
SIBO’s entry into the US wasn’t driven by a grand market‑entry plan—it was pulled in by global customers like P&G, Unilever, and L’Oréal who needed local supply close to their US manufacturing. After establishing a legal entity and warehouse in 2017, SIBO launched production in Virginia in 2021, overcoming COVID‑era delays. By 2025, nearly 90% of US sales were produced domestically.
Their choice of Harrisonburg, VA wasn’t about incentives but about partnership—co‑locating with a major aluminum‑tube producer created instant operational synergies. The site has since grown from 6 to more than 30 production lines, with future hubs possible as customer footprints expand, especially toward the West Coast.
The biggest learning curve wasn’t technical—it was cultural. SIBO had to adapt from Slovenian norms to US workforce expectations, from attitudes toward weather shutdowns to turnover and reliability. Building a stable team required patience, persistence, and deep involvement in the local management community.
US expansion also demanded heavy legal, HR, and immigration support. SIBO quickly learned that American employment law, contracts, and regulatory frameworks differ sharply from Europe, and that expert counsel is non‑negotiable. Political shifts mainly affect them through visas, taxes, and regulatory unpredictability rather than daily operations.
Their core lesson: European companies succeed in the US when they localize fully—proximity to customers, investment in strong local teams, cultural adaptation, and robust legal/immigration infrastructure. What works in Europe doesn’t automatically translate; success comes from embracing the US business environment, not trying to replicate the old one.
